THE FRAGMENT - 2017

Updated: Jan 23, 2019

A Message from the Irish Mass Spectrometry Chairperson

Dear IMSS members,

Welcome to the new Fragment, the committee and I thought that seeing as this is the 30th year of the Irish Mass Spectrometry Society we would try and improve the newsletter and I think you will agree that we have made a big effort in this area. As I write this I am coming up on a year as the IMSS chairman and I would like to take the opportunity once again to thank the previous chair, Richard Maguire for all the effort that he has put into the IMSS and I hope tobe able to carry on in a similar vain. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all on the committeefor their fantastic efforts over the last year. The next IMSS conference will be held on the 10th of May 2017 at the Red Cow Morans hotel in Dublin.

An early draft of the programme can be found in this newsletter. I would just like to draw your attention to a couple of initiatives that the committee have brought in to make your experience all the more enjoyable. For those of you travelling long distances on the morning of the conference I would like to draw your attention to a pre-meeting breakfast which is available in the hotel. And also for those of you who would like to network after the meeting is over there is a drink token available, just contact any member of the committee on the day, about either option, both of which is available as part of your registration fee. As happened last year there will be a buffet style lunch and a poster session also, again contact any member of the IMSS committee or go to the IMSS website to apply to present a poster.

We have an excellent line up this year including our keynote speaker, Dr. David Clark from the University of Edinburgh, who will give a presentation on the use of mass spectral imaging techniques to analyse protein structure and function. We will also have a number of other excellent speakers as well as some very interesting student presentations and of course awards for the best student presentations.

I would also like to take the opportunity to draw your attention to the new student bursary to be offered by the IMSS. The winner of this competition will acquire a €1000 travel bursary to a mass spectrometry conference of their choice, more details inside the newsletter.

I hope to see you all on the day of the conference.

Philip White - IMSS Chairperson
